For more than 17 years, biologist Laura Gangoso has been studying the population of Eleanora’s falcons on the arid, remote islet of Alegranza, in the north of the Canary Islands.
The Wind Sentries follows Laura and her team as they discover the amazing synchronization of this special hawk with the trade winds it depends on for its survival.
Their work demonstrates the links between the survival of each year’s chicks and the changes in wind patterns that are happening on a global scale: this species is a clear bioindicator of climate change, and we would do well to attend to the Wind Sentries.
